045 - Layouts: One and Two Point Perspective

Here are two layouts.  The first had to use one point perspective.  The second had to be an interior using two point perspective.

I did this one all digitally.  I sketched it from a thumbnail and then cleaned it up and added some grey (assignment had to be colourless).  It came out alright.  Kind of a Popeye era NY meets a western sort of background.  I'm happy that it still feels organic.  I used some grids for the perspective, but drew all the lines by hand.

Interior two point perspective.  Blue pencil sketch.  Digital is okay for some things, but I have better control with pencil and paper.

Added some value digitally.  This method of colouring worked better than the last one.

It's the interior of a pirate type room by the water.  I like the clutter of this one.  Feels lived in.

041 - Wild West Layout

Here's a layout I just finished up.  The blue one is the pencil sketch with a bit of value.  The second one adds some more contrast with a layer of grey scale.  Hopefully it read a bit better than the first.

The assignment had to have two people, a vehicle, an animal/monster, and a briefcase.  I'm pretty sure a second briefcase is also fine.

038 - Layout: Part of a Healthy Breakfast

First layout assignment of the semester.  Create a layout of objects of our choice.  Focus was on structure and layout, but meant to be slightly cartoony.  Drawing shapes in perspective last year really helped with this.

The layout had to work as 16 x 9 (widescreen) and also 4 x 3 (um...not widescreen).

They give quite a different feel.  The widescreen seems more open since it has some space around the edge.  The standard ratio seems more cramped.  It's fun trying to figure out how to try to lead the eye around the page.
