Sketching in France

Bonjour.  So it's been a little while since my last post.  It is summer after all, but mostly it's because I've just returned from a great holiday.  We flew in to Nice for a night, then took the ferry across to Corsica the next day.

Most of my sketching in Vancouver is usually people, so I took this opportunity to focus more on where I was.  It's also easy to do when the scenery is so cool.

View from the hotel window

It's fun trying to pick out what details to include, and how to show them.  Especially without colour.

Some buildings up a hill

These felt almost like landscape gestures.  Scribbly, but I know what they are of (even if other people don't haha).

Waiting for the ferry

Big ship on the left.  Ramp up to the city on the right.  Light posts down the middle.

People on the ferry

People waiting are fun to draw.  Especially when I am waiting too.

Sketching certainly takes longer than taking a picture, but it's pretty cool that I can look at these and remember much more about where I was than I could from a photo.

  1. Damn, these are good Pat! Reminds me of Frank Gehry's sketches. I absolutely love the first one and you nailed the gestures of the people on the ferry. Hope to see more from you!

  2. Thanks! I just had a look at some Frank Gehry sketches. Wow his sketches are cool. I don't think he sketches with a ruler either haha.
